3 Things You Need To Have Prepared Before Your Moving Day

Australians have high mobility when it comes to houses, with hundreds of thousands of Australians moving houses every year. The idea of living in one house for your whole life is now antiquated, and because of this, there are some routines and practices you should be familiar with when you eventually do move houses. While some things might seem obvious, for those experiencing this for the first time, it can come as a shock, and they can overestimate their own abilities. Here are three things you absolutely must organise before you move houses.

1. House Removal

When moving house you will always be surprised by how much stuff you have that you never use. You should never try and move all these belongings by yourself for a few reason:

  • Not accustomed to moving heavy items: moving heavy items is a skill in itself and it requires an acute awareness of your limits and your spatial position. Taking this easy will only result in pain for you, both financial and physical. House removal experts know how to complete the job with minimal fuss.
  • Lifting incorrectly: it might sound ridiculous, but there is a very particular way you should lift and transport items, both heavy and light. Without knowing how to do it well and regularly, you are liable to hurt yourself. House removal experts are well-versed in how to transport every item you have.
  • Time-sensitive: house removal experts work quickly and are very good at prioritising their time on appropriate tasks to make the job go quicker. Moving day is a stressful time and worrying about moving all your items out of your house on time is not something you want to deal with.

In addition to this house removal companies can also store your items for you if you find out that you have a lot of things you want to get rid of (or store) but haven't had time to do it yourself yet.

2. Utilities

When moving into your new home, you want to have it ready to go, and that means making sure all the utilities are turned on. Electricity, gas, water and even the internet all have to be organised before you arrive; otherwise, it could be some time before they are ready to be used. This is especially true if you are moving on a Friday or a weekend, meaning you could be without any of these important services for a couple of days. It is simpler to just organise it before you plan to arrive, so ensure you work with the current owners and plan your swap over if you intend to change providers.

3. Pets

If you have pets, then any big change for you will be amplified by tenfold for them. A move is very stressful on animals, and you should try and ease them into it so that they do not have any stress-induced injuries. For bigger animals like dogs and cats, you should consider travelling to your new location a few times before the actual move so that they become familiar with it and are not blindsided by a new location and all that entails. For smaller animals, like guinea pigs and fish, the most dangerous part is the actual move, so make sure they are very securely fastened in the vehicle that you are travelling in and, preferably, have them travel within eyeshot of you so you can monitor their condition.
